Dev Log 3 - Scheduling My Work

I am an extremely fast worker and I somewhat live in that little window before a task is about to reach its deadline. This has led me to procrastinate on assignments because I know I can complete them so quickly. Furthermore, the quality of my assignments suffers because of the time restriction. I’ve started to painfully do a little bit of work at a time over a week to increase the quality of what I produce. This tactic only works so well, when you have 7 other courses, due dates start to pile up.

I am someone who suffers from CCC (Chronic Crunch Catastrophes). I’m just not great at managing all my classes together, I tend to procrastinate a lot because of my ADHD, and this makes it hard to reach deadlines. To counteract this, I’ve started using Kanban boards to schedule my tasks throughout the week and this has helped tremendously. Overall, I try to keep reminders on my phone and attempt to continuously check my email.

I feel like I'm also someone who grinds things out faster when deadlines come closer, but I also have found myself struggling from quality declines as well. I do value the quality of work, which also puts me in this limbo of balancing workflow vs. quality. It also runs the risk of missing deadlines, which is a hard habit to break out of. The reminders on phone thing might be a good idea for me to try out as well!

I totally understand where you're coming from! Living on the edge of a deadline can be exciting, but it can also be stressful. It's smart that you're starting to spread out assignments to improve quality, although that can be difficult when you have multiple courses.CCC does sound like a lot of work, especially with ADHD. Using a Kanban board and setting reminders is a solid strategy for keeping on top of your work!

Hi Matt!
I think we all can relate to the struggle of needing to crunch class projects when life gets in the way. I think Kanban boards and other scheduling apps are a great tool to counteract these interferences. I do find that they can be a bit too simple for some projects personally, but they are great for tracking due dates and things of that nature for sure!

Hey Matt!

I know that you've had a rough start this semester, so it's great to see you slowly getting back into the groove of things. If Kanban has the option, I highly recommend you to customize the to-do list workspace, as it makes tasks seem less intimidating when you're crunching. Hoping the best for you, good luck bestie.

Hi Matthew!

I should be using a kanban board! Ever since Ms. Bradshaw's class, I've been trying to push myself to get some sort of visual progress tracker. I'm still trying to find an appropriate app or widget on my phone that would make accessing and updating the board easy. Any suggestion would be appreciated!

personally, I just use the reminders app on my phone and schedule it for certain times and dates (i.e august 24th at 3:00pm). That usually helps keep my mind focused on the task at hand.

That's smart to use a Kanban board to have your schedule and what projects need to be done all laid out. It certainly helps with a big project and allocates little tasks but to use it to schedule bigger projects I haven't thought of using it like that before
